I agree with d4k on this matter. I've seen this kind of behavior numerous times, and it's something I've experienced personally. It's a common tactic for high-conflict parents to badmouth the other parent by labeling them as a "deadbeat," especially if they're looking to rally friends to their side.

If your mutual friend brings up the topic again, you could offer to show them your bank statements as proof of your payments. However, it's worth considering why you'd want to maintain a mutual friendship in a high-conflict situation, as it's likely to only cause more conflict down the line. Beyond that, there's really not much more you can do. You can't control what she says, but you can control your reaction to it.

You should speak to a lawyer. Going on disability should cause a reevaluation now, but it would depend on what you owe and why. Your payments may get reduced but extended.

She also has built an apartment in the basement so has that income as well.

Being declared disabled and receiving such income from the Government is one thing.
Having STD or LTD end and saying you can't work without having the medical to back it up is another. A doctor's note will not suffice.

The wording of your order is important so no one can tell you anything without knowing the wording. Even then Spousal Support is not a clear cut thing and there are a lot of things to consider.

It's hard to say without all the facts. STD is for 6 months and LTD goes for 2 years max unless you're catastrophically disabled. Courts should go by your disability income, but that's only if you continue to qualify; otherwise you can still be imputed your previous income.

I was not on disability when finalized...the insurance company is being sued but everything takes time. Divorce decree says pay til retire then reevaluate

Were you on disability when you finalized your divorce?

If your insurance company is no longer supportive, they must believe you can return to your previous job or work a modified schedule. What does your order say regarding support?

    Any advice

Bitter divorce...finalized two years ago, after a 2 year fight... She bought me out of the house for less then it should have been..but....the next step was court and we both would have been worse off.

Ended up on sick leave for the last two years, my short term disability ended. I do have a lawyer trying to get benefits reinstated. The only income I have is the first part of oas, approx 750 per month. My support payments based on my income before I went on sick leave was $515. I still have some money saved in the bank from the house sale, but am living off of it. Is there any chance the courts would let the support ended.

Edited to add, she is on a full teachers pension and also gets the first part of the oas, for a total of $3900.

    anyone have experience with this?
