My husband's daughter is heading to a three year college program. She will be living away full time including summers. He currently pays child support and expects to contribute to her education as well. We are unsure of how this usually works. Does child support continue? Does he pay CS plus living and school expenses? He and his ex-wife haven't discussed it yet. Their agreement states he pays CS until age 18 but he has always assumed he would continue support in some form until she is done school. Can anyone tell me what the norm is? Thanks!

Paying cs and living expenses is considered double dipping so if shes away and he pays living expenses then he doesnt pay cs.
Living expenses are rent, food, insurance, utilities, personal care stuff and transportation costs if necessary (some schools have bus passes in their fees).
Tuition, books and other school expenses (computer printer etc) are all added to that.
All of these costs are added together and split by the three of them. Most of the time its 1/3 to the child with the remaining 2/3 split according to S7.
Do a search on this forum of post secondary and you'll find a lot of info.
He should probably sit down with mom and daughter and discuss costs and how they will share them. Kid will be responsible for some costs and having her be part of the convo will encourage her to be mature and responsible.
