  • Insurance after leaving matramonial home

Stbx is leaving the matrimonial home in the near future. The car insurance policy is joined.
Shall i call and cancel STBX from the insurance?
I have been previously advised to keep everything the same. The advise from the lawyer i guess was to avoid retroactive spousal support.

    thanks

Unfortunately, the car won't be split in two. One of you is going to keep it and will have to call the insurance company to remove the other driver from the Policy when the move occurs. If you each own your vehicle, stop using the other vehicle and remove the other driver. STBX can then ask the company to issue a new Policy for the other vehicle when he/she moves out and provide new address.

In my situation, it was for two cars as well. I only contacted the company once I was in my new apartment to let them know we were no longer together. From there, they knew what to do. Just make sure you are no longer on the other's car policy.

When I did it with my ex I gave him 30days notice that I was cancelling the joint car insurance (2 cars) to give him a chance to find his own insurance.
