  • FRO-arrears

I followed the advice from the previous thread, I called the Family Responsibility Office, faxed in all of my supporting evidence and it just went from 1 extreme to the next.

I explained to them that my arrears are fixed at $700 as per the court order (I faxed to them) and that as I did not pay may (I waited for FRO) that the arrears are at $875.

They previously sent me an arrears statement for the month of May.

When I checked my arrears today it was only $167 now (Which is the month of May, if they ever do fix it they'll probably end up doubling the month of may as they should only add $700).

Any suggestions on how to talk to your x about leaving FRO and doing it through different means?? or any suggestions on how to handle FRO??

They don't seem to call me back ever and they cannot seem to figure out the correct amounts.

FRO are a nightmare to deal with. I finally went to the provincial ombudsman and they intervened. My lawyer also told me she is suing FRO on behalf of a client and the only reason she was able to do so is that she knows who their lawyer is so he can be served with papers( it's not public knowledge). You can also try going to your MPP

Thanks!!! They definitely are first it was to much money now it is not enough and if I don't fix it I'm up the creek. To top it all off my case worker informed my employer they are to make deductions every pay which makes the monthly amount less then the court order and my worker told me that the recipient could go after me!! I don't know what they want it's very frustrating because I'm the one who gets penalized for it.

You also dont have to have it come off your pay. You can pay it voluntarily via the bank.

The court sent an support order deduction to fro, I don't have a problem with my employer paying as then I don't have to worry about forgetting I just wish fro knew what they wanted as they are all over the map with this and I'm the one trying to fix it yet um the one who pays for their mistakes! !!!!

FRO calculates your monthly then divides by 52 weeks. Would you rather they take your whole pay cheque once a month? They can't actually do that.

You know how much your arrears are. Make a payment for those arrears to FRO through your online banking. If your ex is supposed to receive those arrears in increments of $25 per month, that's what they'll send her and your account will always have a credit until the arrears are paid. If they don't send it to her, it's not your problem because FRO has the money in the account.

My cs pays are $175 plus $25 for arrears, my employer did the following which was what they were told to do by fro:

$200 x 12/ 26 = $92.30 every pay cheque. That is not anywhere close to my entire pay.

My caseworker informed me that the receiver could go after me because she is only receiving $164.80 a month even though that is what the FRO told my employer to do.

My concern is they won't send her the extra $25 because the arrears are only at $167 and then she will try to come after me for the remaining $700 even if I am sending the money to FRO because they cannot get anything straight.

She can't come after you without going through FRO. They can only send her what's in the FRO account. What about months where you get 3 pay cheques? Then you'll be ahead... no?

Yes it adds up to be the same as if I were to pay monthly, my caseworker seems to be a little off their rocker though and sounds like she'd support such a thing
