I am wondering how I can tell if the notice of assessments I am receiving from my ex are actually from revenue canada. They don't look like the forms that I receive, they are printed from the Internet, I am being told. My ex says he doesn't receive a notice of assessment in the mail, only via email. Is this possible?

I am registered online with CRA to receive NOA via email. I can tell you it has a purple background and blue bold type for the section headings. That help?
edit: I take that back... the printer friendly version is black only.
Here's a sample with the right side cut off.

A good thing that you are verifying this. My ex dances the dance where he submits one tax return into court and then refiles again 6 months later. I end up getting dribs and drabs of copies of faxes from CRA. Next time I'm in court I will request a notaried copy to be provided every year. Tiring to have to do this though.

I'm not sure what to think of your ex's. It looks like it could be valid, but its not in a format I've seen before.

CanadienFan,
This is a new feature of the CRA's MyAccount system that came out for this tax filing season and is an accurate reflection of the notice of assessment available online. If you are setup for online access at the CRA website you can go online and if your tax return has been assessed you will see it on the welcome page that the 2014 notice of assessment is available and when you click on it this is what you will see.
What others posted above is based on clicking the tax returns tab, then the tax year in question and clicking printable version. If you want the explanation details and not just the numbers have him send you the explanations available and it will show the written page 1 details of the NOA as well.
Regards,
Stemmy

Stemmy is correct. That screenshot I posted is my 2013 return. The NOA's are not available until this year. My return for 2014 has not been assessed yet. It actually says it hasn't been received yet and I filed before the end of April.
It's also possible that the emailed version looks different from what's online.
