A friend of mine thought that it made a big difference in the length of time that you will receive spousal support as soon as you hit the 20 years. Is it worth me staying in a bad marriage for that extra year? I am not working at the present time and have worked only part time off and on throughout the marriage.
hmm you say you are not married and you are asking questions for other people. What is it??

In this thread you were ending your second marriage. Get your stories straight.

I think its really really cool how before you are even divorced you are plotting how to extend spousal support as much as possible - good for you, my hero!
Regardless, that person is a superstar! They must have a been wonderful spouse too. I hope karma bites them in the ASS!

Spousal Support is almost contingent on the good faith of the recipient - a recipient who makes NO effort can have it cut off (this is recent jurisprudence in Quebec).

Just makes you wonder how many other people like the poster's "friends" are out there sticking around in a miserable relationship just for that extra 12-24 months in order to get "more SS"....ludicrous really

Quebec is unique in how they do things, and at times one wishes other provinces will follow and adopt some of their laws / rules.

Now is there a similar jusrisprudence in Ontario?
