  • Expensive Lawyers

Anyone can tell me if my investment of a more expensive lawyer (Ms. Jennifer Treloar of Misissauga $390.00/hr) will progress my case better than the cheap $250/hr lawyers I had in the past. Please tell me something positive because I just placed a $5,000.00 retainer on her to get my equalization and spousal support done.

    Expensive Lawyers

Having had a less expensive lawyer and a more expensive lawyer, personally I found them both completely incompetent. I don't know the lawyer you mention despite the fact I live in Mississauga so perhaps you have found one of the few competent ones.

AND...as far as spousal support goes, you won't find anyone more competent than me. I have a copy of the spousal calculator that they use called Chequemate and being a financial expert, I have helped people fix incompetent lawyer errors (Both my own lawyer and opposing counsel haven't got a clue what they are doing) I just keep my own lawyer around to make sure I do all the correct forms etc...

And to top it all off, I am free

Lawyers are tricky. Usually, if they are very cheap they are not very good. However, the reverse is not true - just because they cost more doesn't mean they are any better. You need to do research and find a good one.

My lawyer was very good and I paid $300/hr for as long as I was able.

          Hahaha!
I HAVE to 2nd that one.

          Now THAT was funny.

I am feeling the same way. I've been twice to my lawyer and am nowhere further along than I was before i started.

I also don't know very much about the law and the role of a good lawyer but from what 've gathered, I think 'most' people are better off doing as much of the leg work ,as they can , on their own, and then just take the papers in to make it legally official. It seems lawyers like us to be dazed and confused since they make more .

          Good luck all the same.
