My friend is doing a joint divorce, representing himself. His ex also doesn't have a lawyer. Neither can afford a lawyer. They have no arguments, everything is figured out already in a separation agreement.
The problem is, he's dyslexic, and he made a mistake: he wrote he was paying $349 in child support and he's actually paying $439, and his ex only noticed it after they'd already filed the petition. He doesn't want to get in trouble with a judge if the judge thinks he's paying less than he's supposed to be paying. He's paying the right amount but because of the mistake, it looks like he's paying way less.
I've called the Winnipeg courthouse to ask how to fix it, and they said something about the affidavit but didn't know what to write or where. They sent me to the divorce helpline and they didn't know how to fix it either.
Does anyone know how to fix this? We've found instructions online for other provinces but not for Manitoba.
