Just because there is an uneven amount of support based on gender doesn't mean that the same resource is there for men.
The only one I heard of in Toronto was censured several times.
You need a good, honest lawyer that gives a crap about their client and can cut through the crap fast.
You don't need one that is going to make a mess of everything on purpose or because they lack experience and intelligence. There are plenty of those.
Can anyone recommend a lawyer in the Ottawa area that specifically helps men.
Thank you
This has been asked on this forum before. Use the search function.
You want a lawyer who is knowledgeable about court, the judges in your region and other lawyers. Extra points to those who have been successful at trial. If you google “lawyer ratings” you can also visit a site that has client reviews although they could be skewed. Also search the lawyer names in canlii and see how their cases shaped up, if they were prepared etc. Not to mention a half hour consult to see if they are compatible.
You want a lawyer who isn’t going to bullshit you, be lax, constantly unprepared or unable to argue a case.
It doesn’t matter if they are pro woman or pro man. You want pro winning.
My advice to you is that you should be prepared to meet and interview 3-4 lawyers.
If you can clearly and honestly describe your situation in 5-10 minutes, a good lawyer should be able to give you a pretty good idea of how things should shake out. Basically, if they are experienced, they should have a rough idea how a judge would likely rule if your case ever goes to court.
If the lawyer is wishy washy or wastes a whole bunch of time telling you "war stories", I'd pass on them and keep looking.
