  • Judge's Decision

How long does it usually take the judge to write and release a decision? Is it common for the decision to be released in writing instead of in a court room?

Depends on the step in the proceeding.

You can receive the decision on the spot. You could wait months.

      Judge's Decision

It was trial. Was scheduled to have the decision read in court 5 days after completion but got cancelled and now waiting for written decision.

Yes, it is not unusual for it be written "in chambers." It took our judge two months to write the decision. Trial was in October and written decision was released two months later. But I think he was particularly attentative because he did not want the parties to go through Christmas not knowing what he had decided.
