Default if you have a lawyer on retainer..

If you have a lawyer on retainer, can you do part of your legal matters yourself? If you have settled everything using your lawyer for parenting agreement and financial settlement is all done, and then when the year is up and you want to get the actual divorce, are you obligated to use the lawyer you have on retainer, or could you just deal with all the paper work yourself and go and have it filed?
