Importance of holding up terms of agreement

Today my ex has taken my son outside of the district without first providing me with the address and phone # of where he will be, as is agreed upon in our shared custody agreement.

What is the significance of violating the terms of the agreement?

If she can violate the terms, can I also?

Will the judge really be able to do anything about it or is it just another case of the law only allows limited constraints on what the judges can do?
