I see nothing depraved in one soldier killing another soldier - this is war. GTA on the other hand shows graphic scenes of violence against unarmed civilians and sadistic scenes against women .... that should not be tolerated by any society that considers itself civilized.
(I'm well aware that the characters being tortured or injured in the games aren't real people, and that most gamers don't go on to become violent criminals. I'm concerned with the effects on society as a whole when we treat causing pain and suffering, even fictional pain and suffering, as something fun to do for the adrenaline rush. I'm very concerned about the addictive pull of that sadistic adrenaline rush, especially as I encounter parents of teenage boys who appear to be literally addicted to these games).
(I also look at some of these wannabe Rambos glued to Call of Duty and Medal of Honor and other first-person-shooter video games and think "You wouldn't last five minutes in a real wartime situation, tough guy").

I'm saying it's all evil.
The problem is, we're not agreeing with you. So sorry for that.
There is a scale of evil, and if you were to put violence against fictional women in a video game, and videos of rape/molestation against real children on the same scale, you would find that most people would rate the former as a 10, and the latter as a 100.
I don't think you should be allowed get away with saying "they're both evil", and leave it at that.
One is SOOOOOOO much more heinous than the other.
That would be like me saying that accidentally killing a man in a fist fight, and orchestrating the holocaust, are both "evil". They're not even remotely the same.

In the Immortal words of Suicidal Tendencies and now Body Count:

Yo, I came home from work the other day
I was tired, I just wanted to sit back in my big chair
And play a little a Xbox
You know, relax a little..
People need to separate entertainment from reality. Let us not forget what Judas Priest had to go through, the PRMC, Tipper Gore and Dee Snider's testimony...
We are treading on "censorship" in many of these debates about what should be content in a video game. We tread on the fundamental principals of free speech if we over react and blame "the media", "music", etc... The best way to demonstrate your dislike for a product that doesn't agree with your principals is to simply not support and buy that product.
Good Luck!

Let me puff my chest when I say that I own my opinions.
Calling me on what? Your magical thinking?
Do not ever attack my integrity with your own assumptions.
YES child molestation is evil. So is promoting violence.
Let me heap it into one pile of disturbing behaviour. I dont have levels or tiers for criminality.
Its your perogative to disagree. Pick away but leave your own belligerant thoughts and do not intertwine them with my comments.

Millions of people play these games. So generalization is dangerous.
My clan included quite a few real life soldiers of a few nations. One of them was decorated for valour in Aghanistan.
On the server I admin'd we tried to keep the smack talk down to a minimum. If you really wanted to prove yourself in game, wrack up a big score. The game I played was somewhat strategic, running around guns blazing was how to lose.

Don't these people have anything better to do anyway. What a f****ing waste of time.
I don't play video games but I do occasionally watch some pretty stuff trash reality TV (housewives of Atlanta, and gypsy sisters). These shows are salacious and glorify the wrong things but I need brainless downtime. I work a lot and treat myself by watching crap sometimes.
Most people that play video games (my kids included) do it to relax. Its simply a pastime. My children don't play this particular game being discussed but they play call of duty....which is definitely violent. Last time I checked, they were sensitive, nice kids who put spiders outside instead of killing them...don't eat meat...and regularly try to help others.
And by the way, video games are not all bad...they actually can make you think more efficiently:

Some times we help but, mostly... We all have fake names and fake identities and silly opinions.
Some of us don't even know what gender we are...
Good Luck!

Then one day they lured a school mate. Brutally tortured her, raped her, killed her, and then burned her body.
I don't think it helps when you already have a troubled kid with a difficult upbringing and add on violent video games (or other vices) but I would consider the video game more of a symptom than a cause.
There are millions playing this game...statistically the data doesn't support that playing this game causes anyone to rape or murder people.
