  • Witnessing signatures

I had a document drawn up (by a lawyer) today for my husband and I to both sign. Who can witness our signatures? Can the person be related? I was hoping to just get my brother or nephew, and his wife, to be the witnesses.

I don't really know people that live in our area..... So - if relatives aren't allowed to witness, can we just take the document up to the neighborhood pub (or coffee shop) and get a couple people there to witness?

    Thanks.

Yes it can be someone you dont even know.
As long as they see the signatures being made, it doesnt matter who they are, as long as they are of legal age.

      Thanks for the reply, polar.

So does that mean that relatives can witness our signatures, as long as they are at least 19 years old?

Yes a relative can sign as long as they are over the age of 18.
