  • Terminating Child Support Payments

I currently pay child support for my two daughters. Payment has been under the "old" child support system as opposed to the new child support guidelines introduced in 1997. My oldest daughter will have completed her University education and she is 23 years of age. I have another daughter, who will be completing her first year of a 4-year course at University.

Is there anyone who has been in a similar situation trying to terminate payments for one child from the old system? If I terminate payments on the oldest daughter, will the new child support payment for my remaining daughter, automatically be under the new ruling?

Is this a situation easily handled on your own or should I consider letting a lawyer handle this on my behalf?

Your existing Separation Agreement will remain in effect, (old child support system) unless you have it changed by a court order or mutual agreement with your ex. As your eldest daughter has completed her degree most likely it is stated in your agreement that child support payments will terminate for her and you will only be responsible to pay for the younger child until she completes university.

Support for a dependent with a disability

What does one need to know concerning possible support for a dependent with a disability. What may happen to the house. Is the fact that one spouse made the downpayment on the house important, especially if it would have benn alot more expensive in the long run if we had not made bought a house that soon? Thanks
