  • anybody have experience with cross border divorce?

Hello, I'd appreciate any feedback on cross border divorce and attendant issues you've faced.
Our situation - wife is from overseas, married in the US several years ago, have a kid, currently living in Massachusetts; we don't have permanent residence in the US, she has no right to visit/live in Canada either. Irreconcileable differences emerged and both of us have turned into "monsters" toward one another. Caught wife having a profile on a personals site and chatting with other men. That really showed me how naive I was in trying to be friendly and compromising.

I offered her the choice to go back where she came from and receive a payment of $1500 USD per month for a few years, then the amount would drop to $1000. She said no way.

Anyhow, what are the dangers/benefits associated with the following plan?
I quit my job right away and return to Canada, my work visa gets revoked and she is out of status; I continue to provide for her and our child until visa issues force her out of the US. I pay child support when she returns to her home country. Then I seek divorce in Canadian court a year hence.
I'd much rather get the case heard by a Canadian court than Massachusetts court because the latter is known to take a very damaging stance against men. Can I lose legal custody by just quitting my job and going back to Canada?
If assets acquired during the marriage are greatly reduced due to investments gone bad is the man liable for the pre-loss amounts or after-loss amounts when the time comes to split those assets?

    Generally,

The hearing of the issues is held where ever the children reside. Not sure if there is children involved or not.
