  • Net Shared Expense for Daycamp(Quebec)

in shared custody situation. I am in ontario, mother is in gatineau. My son will be going to daycamp at City of Gatineau daycamps for summer. The daycamp is $20 per day(with childcare).
some of the rules have changed in the past year for refundable tax credits for childcare in quebec. I'm just wondering what my net shared expense will be. She claims him for all the tax credits paid to childcare through the school year. The government still contributes a share of childcare expense to her, based on household income, which should be around $10 per day, so would I only be respoinsible for paying half the difference?
    $20(daycamp fee) - $10 (subsidized contribution) then minus 50%.
who is familiar with municipal daycamps and tax credits?
any help would be appreciated, thanks

Any subsidies and grants and tax benefits come off the top. So if shes getting the camp subsidized then you pay your portion of the remaining. I dont think she can claim it as a daycare expense but someone else may clarify. If she can, you'll need to figure out what that amount is and take it off the total cost.

If its considered childcare for work you treat it as a s7 expense unless you both are willing to split it 50:50.

Remember you pay your portion of NET cost. She gets all the tax benefits and subsidies so she cant get you to pay more than your share of the actual cost.

thats my only question. can she claim the daycamp fee above the normal $8 per day subsidized amount for childcare we have during schoolyear. this would constitute childcare for our situation, both working.

Does she get the subsidy for the day camp? If no then no. Is this subsidized daycare an option instead of the daycamp? If yes, what is the difference in cost and is that difference so great that your kid should suffer not doing a daycamp they might enjoy?

The best way to look at the cost is this--what does mom actually pay after all subsidies, tax benefits and other reductions come off? THAT number you split.

If youre saying your kid should be in daycare instead of a summer camp they will enjoy because of eight bucks then you need to shake your head. Eight bucks a month over the summer is less than $20. Is your kids happiness not worth a week of coffees?
