  • LSUC and charges

I have looked in to some LSUC complaint cases. I am astounded by the number of lawyers who are being reviewed and sanctioned by LSUC for obvious financial indiscretions, including trust fund misappropriations, falsified shareholder documentation and outright thievery. The lawyers usually have their licenses revoked, however, they don't seem to face criminal charges for their behaviour.

Why do they seem to be protected from the criminal system through LSUC?

Because the LSUC will not prosecute their own and because of no funds they need the lawyers to continue to pay their fees. The organization is really not looking after the public interest and to protect the public from lawyer fraud.

within any population there will be bad apples, this information is misleading at best

secondly having your license to earn money revoked is probably worse than going to jail

Are you speaking from experience. The LSUC is a bias organization and will not take the appropriate action when a lawyers goes rouge. There is many Lawyers that have immunity from any disciplinary actions. This is mainly due to the draconian leadership at the LSUC.

          Speaks for itself

Time to abolished the LSUC and revamp the process and have more society input in the process.

          Any thoughts

I've sued a lawyer and won, so yes I am speaking from experience.

However, I am under no illusion that the bar/lsuc is going to be real force for good.

That is why we have a court system. I completely ignored the bar procedures, I filed a lawsuit and collected.

Feminist organizations and the government are much worse and way more powerful, lawyers are just their tools.

              Lawyer Accountability

I like to encourage everyone who has use a lawyer to rate their lawyer this is one way that the public can show their accountability of the lawyer that was use. The more the public gets involve then more the lawyers will have no choice to provide service that they know will be scrutinized by the public.

LSUC can't prosecute lawyers for corruption, but they can sanction them (fine, license revoke, etc). This I understand.

But, why isn't the Police prosecuting in these cases? When I read through some of these LSUC tribunal cases I can't help but wonder why LSUC hears the case in a Tribunal at all? Why aren't they passing them to the police for prosecution? If the evidence fits, then any sanctions done by LSUC after the police prosecution would be extremely cut and dry. Lawyer charged with fraud, therefore license needs to be revoked.
