  • Part of the system - Mr. D!

I owe it to the gentleman to tell the tale below, so i will; even though i have to start my day at 3 am.
i walked into 393 university ave today to file my "Answer". the gentleman at the counter looked at my application and told me that the "Answer" cannot contain exhibits, from there his kindness begun.

    • he advised me to get a 14A and attach the exhibits to it so that the Judge dosnt throw the "Answer" out
    • he pre-stamped my "exhibit" title pages
    • he told me not to get another ticket at the counter and come straight back to him once i have the 14A to swear the documents.
    • once i came back he checked the entire application to see if every thing was marked correctly for me
    • when i pointed that the applicant had filed two different versions of the application he went and checked if she could legally do that.
    • he then made two copies of the application, properly labeled, tabbed and provided me with one copy for my own records and another to go serve at the applicant! (he didnt even charge me for it!)
    • he advised me to mail it from downstairs and even offered stamps to put on the envelop.
    • when i told him i would like to courier it instead, he told me the cheapest and quickest way to do it.
    • While i was away he prepared the affidavit of service for me.
    • He then printed two copies of it, including one for me.
    • since i am jobless, he suggested (without me even knowing that its possible) that i apply for a fee waiver application. i agreed.
    • he then filled the waiver application out and printed it for me.
    • he then filed my documents and wished me a great day.

the amount of work this gentleman put into my file was incredible, the kindness he showed was well beyond extraordinary and certainly by no means required by his job. while at the desk he was chit chatting with the process servers and was inviting and being invited for dinners & drinks etc, which certainly speaks to how highly he is regarded by other legal professionals.

after i filed the documents and left, i thought his person would certainly be of great value to our forums, so i went back and suggested that he joins ottawadivorce. he then gave me his direct office line & official email just in case i have any further procedural questions!

I am not sure if its appropriate for me to share his identity on the forums, or if he would like it or not. but as corrupt as the system is, as daunting as the process is, its people like Mr. D. who go beyond the call of duty in an effort to keep things from totally collapsing. Big round of applause Mr. D!

I wish there was a Mr or Ms D. where I live. We could certainly use more people like that in every walk of life! It's good that you took the time to appreciate his dedication and generosity

A lovely story and I am glad things went well for you today. I would prefer that individuals not be named on the forum unless it is a reference to published material.
