  • FRO process

When child support is ordered , and FRO is advised..what happens next?
Can someone please explain the process and the time involved to receive a payment?
    Thank you.

Usually it takes a minimum of 3 months. Does FRO have the stamped and issued court order? Call them and find out. If you don't have a case # just don't enter anything when you get the voice prompt for that - you will be connected with a FRO agent who can run your name and the payor's through their computer.

You can also visit the FRO website under the Ministry of Community and Social Services. There is info on there to help you better understand the program and what they do to promote the whole "Good Parents Pay" jazz. For automated information you can call them at 416 326 1818 (in GTA)

      Thanks hadenough!
The Motion for Interim Support will be heard the first week of April..
hopefully, my daughters will start receiving the proper amount of Child Support. Currently, the ex is paying about 1/5 th of what the guidelines are!

When FRO became involved in our case last summer I was overjoyed.
However, since then there have been problems. Most of the time - it's related to my STBX. Then FRO has to intervene.

In the past few months, I've noticed that it's impossible to call FRO now and get someone live on the phone. It would take a day, then two days before they called back....

(The current information for my case is somewhat dated. However, it is nice that you can get a computer-generated voice to give you basic information; 24/7. I think they are doing an overhaul of their automated system soon.)

Last week I called FRO, got a vm message response several days later. They always say they are returning your call in these vm's. That's it. I would guess they cannot do any more than that (privacy legislation, etc.).

But I do find it frustrating... that no one answers their phone. They may must be seriously understaffed; maybe demand has increased dramatically???? I will be playing phone tag again next week.

My STBX is 2 months behind now with C/S and that really hurts my budget.

When I met and then married my STBX he earned a 6 figure income. And during our marriage he earned another university degree (Masters in a technical field).

(I earned about half of what he did before losing my job to downsizing and then getting pregnant while we lived together. I could only get temp work before I gave birth.)

In recent years, my STBX can only work p-t at a minimum wage job apparently... even though he has an almost completely open, flexible schedule - unlike me. Hmmm.... I think that he should be able to do a bit better than that... not necessarily over a $100K.

I suspect there is a delay with the FRO payments b/c my STBX has found a way to report an even lower income.

(What I have been receiving for the past 8 months just covers the cost of food for 2 kids. I didn't receive a penny before our first case conference last spring... although my STBX and his lawyer claimed otherwise.)

The real kicker is that the guy suddenly decided to leave our matrimonial home (it's still on the market ... just before Christmas ... duh! He had had until September to come up with the money to buy me out. No chance as I knew already.). The children and I have been living in a crappy rental while he stayed in our matrimonial home.

Somehow he now has been able to sign a lease for a newly constructed upscale apartment... indoor salt water pool, granite countertops, etc. Kind of strange, eh... with an employment income barely above $20K?

        AloofOne,

I hope that you will be able to count on any C/S that is awarded. It does make a huge difference in a child's life - often. My STBX wanted to look like a good boy initially, so I began getting C/S immediatedly. Then the FRO sent documents and became the official "middleman" ... no more than 2 months later. About 3 months into this arrangement they had to do something to invole my STBX's employer more directly. I don't know the full details from memory.

FRO has been highly instrumental and motivational in my matter. I was sure he wouldn't cooperate with them, but you betcha: he did/does. I guess he reallly does enjoy his driver's license.

            See: http://www.ottawadivorce.com/forum/f...33/index9.html

For more "fro" info and views.

SJ: press "1" (as payor) instead of 2 (recipient) and leave a message for HIS worker is what I meant to say..

@sjandme..I am sorry you have had to endure this drama and stress trying to get what is your childrens!
I hope my case is smoother. Fingers crossed.
Mine is aware he does have to pay, and how much...he just hasn't done it on his own, and without a court ordered amount, he gives me what he thinks is fair ($200 a month for two teenage girls..crazy, I know), and never on time..I have even had to ask for it, which is so demeaning.
@hadenough..I am going into this confident that FRO will help. My ex needs his licence and passport for work...I think he will cooperate .
