Default It depends on the Judge

In Ontario, each party has to file a "Case Conference Brief". Only the issues mentioned on the original "Motion to Change" will be tackled. You can't add new issues that may have arisen after court action has commenced.
I think there is a time limit for a Case Conference. Either a Temporary Order or a Final Order will be determined or the case will be adjourned until mediation has been tried, or the other party has retained a lawyer or the proper documents have been filed or a myriad of other reasons.
The Applicant (or his/her lawyer) always gets to speak first and if they spend twenty minutes complaining about you, then you won't have a chance to say anything until the next case conference or settlement hearing.
Some case conferences are over in minutes and some last over twenty minutes. Each case conference is as unique as the couple in court and the Judge presiding.
Clear as mud? That about sums up a case conference. It's nothing to be feared though. Be respectful of the Judge and don't be seated unless s/he tells you that you can be seated (usually the opponents lawyer has to stand the entire time). Don't interrupt the other and the Judge will respect your self-control.
Good Luck!
