Default standard of living

I make a lot more money now that I am seperated than I did while with my wife. We were NOT very well off at all and as my previous post mentions, we incurred a great deal of credit card debt just to put food on the table. My ex or soon to be ex, will not work and is on social assistance. Now she is asking for half my salary and this is wayyyyy more than we ever had while together. In my mind it seems as though it is clear that i didn't make much money while we were together and also it obvious we were heavily in debt, so this should clearly show the judge how low a standard of living we had. How can she expect a higher standard of living now than she did then?
