my ex is living common-law with someone. does that affect his income for child support?
hope it's not too silly a question, all this is so confusing to me. if it doesn't have anything to do with it, why would he lie and say he's single in his financial filing? a confused dalia |

No it does not affect his child support.
The only way it would affect his child support was if he was making less income due to the fact that he is being supported by his girlfriend. In this case an imputed income would be necessary. For example, his gf supports him to the point that he works only half time so they can travel more. They are not her kids, no requirement for her money to go to support them. Same if he was married. He may report single because that is what he thinks of himself. Really it has nothing to do with his gf so I would leave her out of it and let him call himself single. |

The only people responsible for financially supporting a child of a marriage is the parents, not a new partner or spouse. This is why child support payments do not stop if or when the mother remarries. It works both ways, the new stepmom or stepdad are not financially responsible for cs.
