I am just wondering if anybody here could help me with info related on how a business (consulting type) is evaluated. My STBX claims there were no money in the business account at the time of separation, however the business, which I am not involved in, but was consolidated during the marriage, generated 130K in 2007. Thanks in advance.

Strange, but might just be a coincidence that a successful business is not as successful that it once was.
With that in mind, if you think something funny is going on, you could or your lawyer could always question them under Rule 20 of the Family Law Rules which basically is under oath. Another option is to hire a forensic accountant to put the business books and accounts under the microscope to determine the exact state of the business. |

Be forewarned that the forsenic accountant will be very expensive, probably well in excess of $10K.

Exactly. One has to do the math to determine if the business analysis is worth the extra expense considering there is a chance that nothing turns up.
