Age to walk home alone

Last I "heard" - and it was from a CAS worker, the age for "home alone" (but not overnight) was 9. Based on the big-city standards, it's sort of based on the "latch-key kid" premise. Single parents @ work - or both parents at work - 9 is the age that it's considered acceptable for them to be left unsupervised for short periods of time.

Good to know I'm not being unreasonable. I talked to my D6 about the dangers and told her she is not to walk home alone. I think she understands, now just to convey that message to her Dad.

I agree 6 yrs is too young to be walking 6 blocks alone after dark.
(I didn't know D6 meant 6 year old daughter!).

Six years old! No way..lets look at it, most six year olds still have to climb on the counter in order to reach the top cupboard to get the forbidden cookies. A six year old has no cognitive line of defense let alone physical line of defense against anyone be it friend or foe. Absolutely should not be allowed to walk alone.

6 is way too young....too many dangers out there. 35 years ago (I was 6) I was attacked by a stray dog while walking home from school...25 years ago I was hit by a car who jumped the side walk (I was 16)....gosh I've had some pretty crappy luck!
