Default Trial and death in family ,

I have a trial coming up in next couple of weeks, but my dad is on his death bed now and having a hard time getting in the right place to deal with both situations, this is the final trial and i was wondering if i should get a stay or something until things are settled, the last year i lost my mother in october and both have been in hospital off and on since march of last year, been a very bad year for family. any thoughts on how judges react to this or is it common. thanks
