Default Summary Judgement/Rule 16 - When used?

I'm self represented and read an article recently about Summary Judgement and how it was used by lawyers to win cases. Most self represented people had no idea about it until it was used against them.

Can anyone share any experiences or guidance as to when/why this is used and how you deal with it.

Thanks in advance to all who weigh in and respond.

It's when your cases is so baseless that without hearing you the judge can dismiss your motion. Solution don't make baseless motions
