Perhaps this should be posted elsewhere. I thought you were posting it to support your claim about the % of mothers who get sole custody.

It looks like an interesting article but it is buried in someone's thread.

I was. Untill more data is available, these are all we have to go by. Just because you "think" things may be different now means nothing unless you can find some stats to back that up. The gov. studies quoted in this link show mothers having sole custody (or primary residency) between 90 and 80 percent of the time.

How does reading the study make the data any more recent? I read the study and when I looked back at the first paragraph the data from Hull was still 20 years old. Maybe if I read it again will get more recent?

The Toronto Star article I posted was much more recent and showed less than 50% of mother's having sole custody, so that backs up anyone "thinking" that things are changing and backs up the "theory" that your figures are out of date.

Maybe you should look harder. If Mess can find a more recent publication, then they are out there.

And I don't "think" things are more different now, they ARE. I don't need facts as I am not trying to prove anything. I just told you that article was out of date. Don't make this into a personal attack as it isn't one.

Oh, and this still shouldn't be under someone's thread. If/when you find more relevant info you should post it where everyone will see it.

For those interested, I did find something more recent. It is from Stats Canada, in 2009, 14% of divorced have shared custody and 5% had split custody. The remainder is broken up into sole and joint custody, but as expected, the majority of joint custody cases live with the mother (per report). Also, the younger the children, the more often they are with the mother. Although the Star report is recent, I was interested in how many children LIVE primarily with one of the other parent. Joint custody, as quoted in the Star is misleading if you are interested in where the children live. For instance, my husband has joint, but his kids live 3000 miles away. Most "joint" live with mom still with dad visiting EOW. So, since the 99 data, kids living with BOTh mom and dad has risen a little. I am glad it is on the way up, but we still have a long way to go! I don't want to say men don't have a hope of shared, because they do, but they still have a long way to go for it to be the norm. I can't post the link cause my computer isn't allowing 2 pages right now, but it is easy to find if you search stats can.
