Lawyer moving not giving me file + trail date

Hello-
so I have had a good lawyer and now he informs me he is moving, I have given him over 10k thus far with a balance of just under 10k, he tells me that he will not release my file till he is paid, also he informs me that i have a settlement conference and a 3 day trial booked in 3 months. what can i do, i doubt i can come up with that money by then, plus a new lawyer would want a large retainer before going straight to court

my lawyer wants me to sign a form saying i am represent my-self

should i, i don't know how any of this works, will i be raked over the coals

As a self-represented person, you would contact the trial coordinator and tell them you are not ready for trial, and then start reading the law stuff; or get money. Also, contact the lawyer association in your province and find out what he is allowed to do.
