I was lucky enough to find a lawyer in Ontario who didn't require a penny upfront. He took his payment from my share of the proceeds from the sale of the matrimonial home.

Mgchoosey... there are too many to list! ;-)

Actually, to tell you the truth, anything that gets brought up in court that doesn't involve money seems to get bypassed by the judges. And every issue that has some sort of cost implicated with it (ex: child support, transportation, etc.) seems to take top priority.

Then things like re-determining access, who's able to attend the child's extra-curricular and school events, health insurance, holiday scheduling options, provision of child's documents to the NCP, etc... seem to be overlooked each and every time.

It's funny, but it isn't. I just laugh now because I've realized that you could - if you dared - write a death threat to the judge in your conference brief and there wouldn't be any consequences because it would never be read. ;-)

Just my two cents!

As for lawyers... had good ones, bad ones... the outcomes seemed very similar.

Was your house already up for sale when he agreed to this way of paying? How could he be guaranteed that you & spouse would sell-or if she decided not to?

Im just curious about the details .

House was not for sale at the time the lawyer agreed to this but it was clear that the house would be sold soon as both my ex and I needed the cash (equity) to move on in life. Regardless, the house would be ordered sold by the Judge in any settlement conference so it was just a matter of time. There was over $100,000 in equity in the matrimonial home of which half was mine, more than enough to pay his fees.

thanks alot.

settlement conference? I dont know what that is?

But how or why could a judge order a home sold?

Anyways-I guess I could try & find a lawyer & do the same.
