Default Equalization payment - lumpout?

I'm curious.

I know that for SS, sometimes a lumpout is offered - tax advantages for one party, etc. I know that SS lump payouts are normal and offered.

What about equalization payments? Are the vast majority of them done by installments? Or is it traditionally a lump sum payout?

The expectation is that it will be paid by a lump sum. Payment plans or a delay in payment can be negotiated if a lump sum is not practical (for example, if a party would lose their home) however there will generally be interest for the delay.
