Default Divorce vs. Issues?

Hi everyone,

Is it possible/probable to get a Divorce alone first, and deal with spousal/child/property issues after (or simultaneously and independent of the Divorce), or are they are required to be dealt with at once?

Thanks for your input.

You'll want to research severing the divorce from corollary issues. Typically child related issues must be settled first.

It's possible, but it's generally a bad idea. Often, once the divorce has been obtained, one party or the other loses the incentive/motivation to compromise on corollary issues (equalization, spousal support, etc) and the whole process becomes longer and more expensive. If this is because one party wants to remarry right away, s/he should really think about putting the brakes on. Short term pain, long term gain.
