Default Court assigned salary?

For sake of round numbers.
If ex made 50k four years ago, quit and went to school for four years. Is now finished program, but not working. How would the courts base assigning a salary to him for purpose of child support?

- Do they take into consideration what he made before?
- Is it based on what an entry level position is in the new field?

Thanks for the help!

HammerDad will become famous soon enough

I would say it is likely based on the new position as their skill base on the previous position is 4 years old. One would expect that the new position provided greater income potential then the old one, so future earnings should be higher.
