Common Law separation and still without a lawyer
My ex common law spouse took off two yrs ago April. Leaving me with all the debts of a business I held in my name and he was working in. I have had three lawyers who had greatfully taken my money and have done nothing other than paper shuffling. The last lawyer told me after retaining him for over a year that I needed to go to legal aide. I did and applied and was turned down. Every single lawyer I have contacted has told me either I need to pay them a fee of $10,000 and no guarantees or they are too busy to take the case.
A little history about the case. My ex defrauded the FRO and his ex wife of spousal support, he has been bankrupt and now has left me with a revenue Canada debt and a defunked business which I didn't work in, it was only in my name. All assests were in my name, so I assume they are mine. The down payment was all my monies.
I have just recently received a letter from Revenue Canada stating I owe them yet another amount of money, I can only assume this would be from the little support he did give me in the begining, which was not brought about through a court order. I have been told this money is not taxable unless there was a court order.
I am still lawyerless, am now working part time due to health issues.
Can anyone advise me how to go about getting a competent Lawyer? Why is this process so difficult?
Do we ever have lawyers that actually read these posts?
